How to calculate Operator Efficiency & Line Efficiency?

 What is Efficiency?

We measure efficiency for better understanding about how efficiently an operator or a line are performed. By an efficiency report, one can easily find out where to improve. Is it achieve as of standard target or below standard? For better follow-up we should check on hourly basis.

Simply we can say - The ratio between output & input is called efficiency.

To measure a company's performance, the best way by measuring efficiency. For example, an efficient company will produce a greater number of quality products, with less waste and proper use of other resources during a given period than an inefficient company.

Simply we calculate Individual Efficiency like below :

Efficiency = (Output/Input)*100

For example: Target of an operation was 800 pcs but operator has done 600 pcs. Now calculate his/her efficiently.

So Efficiency =(600/800)*100

 =.75*I 00

 =75%  ( As Efficiency expressed in percent.)

For check hourly efficiency of his/her then divide hourly produce qty by hourly target.

But in Standard way, Efficiency Formula is

Efficiency =(Total output hour ÷ Total Input hour)*100

 Or Efficiency =(Standard Earned Hour ÷ Total Input Hour)*100

Total output hour/Standard earned hour = (Total Output in a day*Garments SMV)/60

( Here to convert the result to hour, it divide by 60).

& Allocated Hour or Input hour = Manpower * Working hour

For example: A production line produce 1200 pcs garments in 10 hours by 20 manpower. If garments SMV is 7.50 then calculate that line efficiency.

Here we know,

Output = 1200 pcs

SMV = 7.5

Manpower = 20

Working hour = 10

Now Total output hour/Standard earned hour = (1200*7.5)/60

=9000/60

=150 Hour

Allocated Hour or Input hour = 20*10

= 200 Hour

So, Efficiency = (150 ÷ 200)*100

= .75*100

= 75%

Another way we calculate efficiency like below,

‘’Efficiency = (Total produce minute ÷ Total input minute)*100

=(Output*SMV*100) ÷(Manpower*Working hour*60)‘’

 In the above formula, 60 is multiplied to convert hours into minutes and 100 is multiplied to express in percentage.In the first formula, as SMV in a minute so divide it by 60 to convert it hour( Standard Earned Hour).

Efficiency calculation formula always remains the same . In the production floor, efficiency data is calculated in many forms. Like Individual employee efficiency for the day, individual efficiency per hour, line efficiency and factory efficiency.
